| Amicalola Falls State Park periodically hosts Wilderness Survival Day, a hands-on program covering basic outdoor skills such as fire building, shelter building, water sourcing and navigation. Past sessions have run around $20 per person plus the park's standard $5 parking fee; check the park's event calendar or call ahead for the next scheduled date and current pricing, since these programs run on a seasonal schedule rather than every weekend. Programs have included turning grass into useful cordage, packing a survival kit, and guided edible and medicinal plant hikes highlighting historical uses. In-between programs, explore the tumbling waterfall, one of Georgia's 7 Natural Wonders. The park offers several hiking trails, access to Springer Mountain via the Appalachian Trail approach, and wheelchair/stroller accessible paths providing views of the waterfall and surrounding mountains. Bring a picnic to enjoy at any of the park's picnic tables, or treat yourself to a meal with a view at the Maple Leaf Restaurant located inside the Amicalola Falls State Park Lodge.
