The Byron Herbert Reece Farm & Heritage Center preserves the boyhood farm of Georgia's Appalachian poet and novelist, Byron Herbert Reece. |
||
| The Byron Herbert Reece Society opened the farm and heritage center to the public in 2012 and operated it until 2016, when day-to-day management passed to Union County. Restored farm buildings, including barns, a corn crib, chicken house, smokehouse and spring house, tell the story of early 20th-century Appalachian farm life alongside exhibits on Reece's life and writing. The property also features a petting farm, a visitor's center and gift shop, a creek-side amphitheater, picnic tables, and concerts held at the Reece Pavilion. The Byron Herbert Reece Society continues to promote Reece's legacy through readings, contests, and literary events; check their website for current programming. Hours: April through November, Thursday through Saturday 10 am to 5 pm, Sunday 1 pm to 5 pm. Other weekday visits by appointment. Phone: 706-745-5789 - Address: 8552 Gainesville Hwy, Blairsville Georgia 30512 |
