Walk On the Wild Side Night Hike - 7/24, & 7/31/2008 at 7:30 pm - 9 pm
Lace up your hiking shoes and come see the nightlife of Panola Mountain. This adventure will introduce you to the nocturnal world of the forest and swamps. You will see fluorescent creatures, hear bats, and participate in "spider sniffing." We may even have our local night-time denizen, the Barred Owl, join us. Register in advance. $5 plus $3 parking.

New Manchester History Hike - 7/26/2008 at 10 am - 12 pm
This mile-long hike (easy to moderate) will lead us to the ruins of the Civil War-era New Manchester textile mill and focus on the history of the Sweetwater Creek valley. This historian or ranger-led hike will include going inside the impressive mill ruins and seeing the lovely whitewater rapids (both providing great photo opportunities). $1-$2 plus $3 parking.

Hands On Atlanta Project at Panola - 7/26/2008 at 9 am - 12:30 pm
Volunteers are invited to lend a hand with projects to improve the park's recreational and environmental resources. Removing invasive plants improves native habitat, while grounds maintenance (such as spreading woodchip mulch along trails) will assist with erosion control. This is shovel and clippers work, so wear gloves, jeans and long sleeves.

Join us aloft in "Naomi Ruth," a wonderful 90-foot Southern Red Oak, which is our living classroom. This nocturnal climb will include fluorescent lichen and other glowing critters of the night, stargazing and night climbing activities. We may even have a barred owl join us. Featuring arts and crafts people from around Newnan who bring to the courthouse square their handiwork to sell to the public. This event draws over 50 artist and crafters each first Saturday of the month. Come stay a day under the old oak trees surrounding this scenic and historic courthouse. It has been the backdrop for 4 major motion pictures and several made for TV movies.

Gather with us at the Rockdale River Trail to increase physical activity through a motivating walk, as you pass rock outcroppings gleaming in the morning sun, streams weaving through hardwood forest, and fields of birds singing in the cool breeze. Free - $3 parking.

Basic Fly Fishing Clinic - 11/8/2008 at 9:45 am - 12 pm (noon)
The two-hour clinic covers equipment, knot tying, casting, safety issues and other tricks of the trade. If time permits participants may stay to catch the “Fish of Fish.” Our local instructors C. H. Brown and Michael Reilley suggest wearing long pants/shorts and hiking shoes, and bringing snacks, water and sun lotion. Georgia fishing license required. $7 - $10 plus $3 parking.

Backpacking Clinic - 11/8 & 11/9/2008 at 1 pm
This over-night guided trip will take you to breathtaking vistas, pine savannahs, hardwood bottomlands and water crossings. The five-mile hike will include tracking skills, wilderness survival skills, useful plants, a night hike and hands on experience with backpacking skills for the new and well-seasoned backpackers. Backpackers must supply their own gear. Register in advance.

Join us aloft in "Naomi Ruth," a wonderful 90-foot Southern Red Oak, which is our living classroom.
